In an electric timepiece the mechanical oscillator carries a magnet 10 which moves over driving and controls coils 11 and 12, Fig. 1 having overlapping portions 13, 14 located in the mid plane of the oscillator. The coils may be bent as shown in Figs. 7 and 8. The coils may be coaxial with a damping disc located therebetween. In another example Fig. 17 the damping disc 18 is located between the coils and the magnet.
