Abstract

962,475. Remotely controlled fastenings; door stops. R. E. SANT. Oct. 5, 1962 [Oct. 17, 1961], No. 37100/61. Headings E2A and E2X. A stop for holding a self-closing door 10 in its open position comprises a housing 13, a pivoted detent 12 adapted to project from the housing to engage the door, and an operating member 15 adapted to be slidably displaced in the housing by a solenoid 22 against the force of a return spring 14 from a position, as shown, in which the detent is operative to a position in which the detent is retracted to free the door, the member being held automatically in the latter position by a pawl 18 biased to engage a notch 19 in the member and releasable by a key (not shown) inserted through an aperture 24 in the housing. The detent is biased towards its operative position by a spring. In an alternative embodiment adapted to be located in a wall the detent is in the form of a catch. The solenoid may be connected to a fire alarm circuit or to a manually operated switch.
