Abstract
946,469. Vibration-sensitive alarm devices. MINISTER OF WORKS. April 24, 1962 [ Jan. 24, 1961; July 14, 1961], Nos. 2739/61 and 25595/61. Heading G4N. An alarm system housed in a container is operated by vibration or movement of the container and is operative only when the door of the container is closed, so that the system is inoperative on normal opening or closing of the door. When the door (not shown) is open, a rod 15 is moved by a spring 16 to the position shown where a stop 17 engages a striker 12 to prevent the latter from moving. When the door is closed, rod 15 is moved to a position so that stop 17 and striker 12 no longer engage, so that in the event of any movement of the container striker 12 will hit a lever 9 releasing a spring 6 and bridging contacts 19 thereby releasing a spray of coloured liquid on depression of button 2 on container 1 and completing an alarm circuit respectively. In the embodiment of Fig 4, the detent for the striker arm 25 is provided by a plate 20 rotated in the position shown on closure of the door by engagement of a rack on the door (Fig. 3, not shown) with a pinion 21 on the plate. A delay device is included in this system in the form of a dashpot 27, the piston 30 carrying a projector 34 so that as the piston moves slowly downwards projector 34 will eventually register with a notch in the striker to allow the latter to operate. The bottom of the dashpot is closed by a ball 35 and provided with a bleed hole 29, the ball falling away from the hole 28 when the door is opened which reverses the position of the dashpot. In the embodiment of Fig. 5, release of striker 40 will fracture a glass member 52 allowing the plunger 48 to move under spring action to fracture capsule 44 on the end of a nozzle of a dye container and release the contents. In a further embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown) a latch is provided to restrain the striker when the door is open, but release the striker after a time delay.
