Abstract

1512016 Spring door closers with etectrically releasable detent means C BARBER 23 May 1975 [6 July 1974] 30065/74 Heading E2M A detent means including a shaft designed to be rotated when a door opens has a plunger mechanism which engages the shaft to hold the door open but which can be electrically actuated to release the door to be closed by a spring closer mechanism; the engagement being such that it can be overcome manually in the event of emergencies. As shown in Figs. 3, 6-a spring door closer 12 mounted on a door 10 is pivoted, via link 14, to a door frame 15. A shaft 19, fast with the link, rotates within a casing 18 when the door moves and in the door open position is engaged by a spring pressed plunger 21 which enters a slot 20. The end of the plunger and the slot are tapered to allow manual disengagement but both could be of hemispherical form. A solenoid coil 24 can be actuated to disengage the detent. In a modified mechanism (Fig. 5, not shown) the action of the solenoid can be to engage the plunger with the plunger being spring biassed to a disengaged position. The mechanisms described can be actuated by a fire alarm circuit with one or more actuating means: a manual switch, smoke detector, heat detector. Radio controlled actuating means can be used.
