Abstract

1503225 Device for controlling fire protection flap E SIEGWART 21 Aug 1975 [21 Aug 1974] 34728/75 Heading A5A [Also in Division E2] A device for controlling a fire protection flap subject, in its open position, to a closing force, comprises a lever 16 pivoted at 18 and connected to the flap, a catching lever 9 pivoted at 2 and having a slot recess 14 which catches a pin 15 on lever 16 and holds the flap via 16 in the open position, and a thermally responsive element 4 with fusible pin 3 which abuts and holds a control lever I also pivoted at 2, wherein, in fire conditions, pin 3 melts and allows lever 1 under the influence of a spring to rotate about 2 clockwise and thus allow pin 15 to escape from recess 14, whereupon lever 16 rotates anticlockwise about 18 and closes the flap. In addition, a smoke response motor 13 with a plunger disc 12 is provided which, on detection of smoke, moves to the right (in Fig 1) and rotates (via pin 11) a pawl 6 pivotally mounted at 5 on the control lever 1, whereby a pin 8 on pawl 6 is moved to allow the catching lever 9 to rotate clockwise and release 16 as before. The flap may be closed manually by pulling down on a draw lever 23 whose end 25 locates the pawl 6 and is rotated thereby to release catching lever 9 as described above; or the flap may be opened from the locked closed position when locking lever 20 is rotated clockwise by the downward pull on 23 so as to free pin 15 from abutment with lever 20. The flap, in its closed position, may be opened mechanically by an adjusting motor (not shown) which acts on a thrust rod 28 having (i) a stop 31 which rotates lever 34 and thereby moves lever 32 downwards to release 15 via 20 and (ii) a stop disc 29 which acts upon a pin 30 of a control segment 17 attached to lever 16 and rotates it when 15 is released. Switch 37 is a smoke alarm, actuated when control lever 1 has moved clockwise.
