Abstract

A self locking snap hook for e.g. attaching parachute release cords to the fixed release cable in an aircraft, has a double safety lock mechanism, the two locking actions taking place sequentially and automatically when the hook is attached. To release the locks, they must again be operated sequentially and by deliberate manual action. The hook has a body (1) with a hooked end (11) carrying a pivoted (3) hook closure link (2). the latter has two notches (18, 19) which register with a spring (8) to hold the link closed or open. When closed, a slot (21) in the link disengages from a pin (6) fixed in a sliding sleeve (4). This frees the sleeve to slide a certain distance on the body, limited by the length of a slot in the body. As the sleeve slides, it allows other locking springs (9, 10) to register in recesses (20, 15) holding the sleeve in the extended position. direct manual action on these locks (9, 10) is required before the hook can be released.
