Abstract

The roof smoke vent is closed against the pressure of a gas spring, its clip (9) held by a rotary catch (10). This rotary part is itself held closed against spring pressure by a cranked lever (24). A fuse link (23) is attached to this lever, and also to the rotary part, through an extended coil spring (22). When the fuse is melted by heat, a second spring (32) pivots the lever. This rotates the catach, no longer held by the fuse spring, releasing the smoke vent. The fuse can also be broken by pulling a cable (8).
