Abstract

1,107,922. Fire ventilators. WESTERN ENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING CO. 16 May, 1966 [23 Aug., 1965], No. 21586/66. Heading A5A. [Also in Divisions E2 and F4] A roof ventilator which opens automatically in the event of fire or explosion comprises hinged doors 18 biassed to open by a spring 56 acting on first and second arms 46, 60, the first arm 46 being restrained by a latch 82. In the event of an explosion, upward pressure on the door 18 causes the second arm 60 to move upwardly, turning a trigger 70 against the pull of a spring 78, a latch release bolt 90 on the trigger thereby engaging the upper portion of the latch 82 and disengaging the latch from the first arm 46. In the event of a fire, a fusible link 102 breaks at a preselected temperature and a spring 112 pulls a hammer plate 115 downwardly to engage a foot portion 87 of the latch to disengage the latch from the first arm 46. The doors may also be opened manually by pulling a chain 114, and they may be locked by a tie bar 96 preventing the trigger 70 from turning.
