Abstract

1354210 Door fastenings J AROUETE 22 Dec 1972 [29 Dec 1971 27 Sept 1972] 59349/72 Heading F2A A failsafe emergency electromagnetic release for a door lock operates on failure or disconnection of the electric current. In the form shown in Fig. 1, doors 22, 23 are held closed by catch-bolts 12, 13 having rollers 14, 15 engaging suitably ramped keepers 16, 17 and are held down in the fastening position by an electromagnet 2 acting through links 4, 5 and bell-crank levers 6, 7 engaging abutments 10, 11 on the respective bolts. The electromagnet may be de-energised by either of N.C. switches 26, 27 which are opened by shooting mechanically operated bolts 18, 19, or by either of the N.O. limit switches 30, 31 which detect when the respective door is closed. The inclination of the catch ramps may be such that the holding force of the magnet may be overcome in a panic. Normally the doors are released from a distance by cutting off the current. It is shown in Fig. 8 how a single lock 20 and magnet 2 may control bolts at top and bottom of the door through a linkage 4-9. A similar result may be achieved by connecting the floor bolts to the bolts shown in Fig. 1 by a direct link (Fig. 1 bis, not shown). Indicators and alarms may be incorporated in the circuit. The electromagnet may act directly on the door and its armature co - operate directly with the striker ramp so that it is lifted against gravity as the door is opened.
