Abstract

1420935 Locks D STEAD 29 March 1973 [29 March 1972] 14772/72 Heading E2A [Also in Division G4] A door comprises a lock which is normally inoperative, an electrically energised device for maintaining the lock in the locking condition and a fire detector connected electrically to the electrically energised device to de-energise the device when the detector detects a fire, the electrically energised device when de-energised causes the lock to be released. The lock comprises a sliding bolt 24 urged by a spring 30 to an inoperative position and a solenoid 26 which when energised maintains the bolt in fastening position. The bolt 24 is mounted in a frame 32 with glass panels in the door and the core of the solenoid 26 is integral with the bolt which projects into a recess 22 in a striker plate 20. The solenoid is in a circuit comprising a manually operated switch 36, a smoke detector switch 38, a fire detector switch 40, micro switches 42, 44 and a relay switch 46 connected to a power supply 34. The microswitches 42, 44 are opened by breaking a respective glass panel the switch 36 is opened manually and the switches 38, 40 are opened by a fire thereby deenergising the solenoid and releasing the bolt 24. The relay contacts close on opening the solenoid circuit and close a circuit to a siren 48 and a lamp 49 connected to a battery 47 or the power supply. Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 3, the bolt 54 is held projected by a solenoid 72 operated secondary latch bolt 66 which engages a notch in the bolt 54 when the solenoid is energised and releases the bolt when the solenoid is deenergised. A plurality of locks may be connected to release simultaneously or they may be actuated separately and each may be connected to a control panel having a lamp for each lock, the lamp being extinguished when the lock is released.
