Abstract

The membrane is used to seal edibles or beverages in vessels or containers during storage, may be used in association with bottle corks, and has a foamed synthetic core sandwiched by synthetic films with moisture sealing external linings. The core may be of foamed polyethylene, the films may be of plain polyethylene, and the linings may be vinylic i.e. of polyvinylidene chloride. The mfr. may subject the uncoated tri-lamiante to an initial treatment which promotes the keying of an emulsion to the external surfaces, the tri-laminate having been derived by co-extrusion or the bonding together of separate films. A film stirp may next be coated, then being passed in a horizontal twisted form through a drying tunnel where the coatings are fixed.
