Abstract

1471990 Security-sealed lock E SMITH 13 Aug 1975 [14 Aug 1974] 35761/74 Heading B6P An emergency door lock incorporates a manually-movable retaining means which must be removed from operating parts before the lock can be unlocked and which is associated with a brittle element which breaks when the retaining means is moved. The retaining means may be a pin which passes through a fixed frangible diaphragm to hold parts of the lock mechanism together, or it may be a bolt which can be raised out of a locking position by manual operation of an arm once its rising head has broken through a frangible diaphragm. The diaphragm may be associated with an indicator which shows that it has been broken. When the retaining means has been moved, the lock may be opened by hand or by springs.
