Abstract

962,016. Feeding sheets. HARRIS-INTERTYPE CORPORATION. March 5, 1962 [March 7, 1961], No. 8361/62. Heading B6B. Apparatus for separating sheets from a pile comprises a sucker 12 mounted on a first member 20, a second member 27, and bellows 28 interconnecting said first and second members, said first member being connected to the second memberfor angular movement relative thereto, so that when the top sheet of the pile is engaged by the sucker, the vacuum in the bellows causes the latter to collapse and pivot the first member and sucker away from the pile, the bellows assuming an expanded condition when connected to the atmosphere. The members 20, 27 and bellows 28 are formed as an integral moulding of rubber-like material and are provided with a depending heel 16. The latter is covered by a metal cap 24, about which the top sheet is bent. The member 20 is reduced in width adjacent the heel 16 to facilitate pivotal movement thereof. The sucker has annular ribs 23 on its central portion which snap-over a shoulder 22 extending round an opening 21 in the member.20. Alternatively, the sucker is formed integrally with the member 20. In another embodiment, the first and second members comprise metal plates hinged together and interconnected by bellows. The plates are shaped so that the hinge depends below the first plate to form a heel, Fig. 4 (not shown), about which the top sheet is bent. The lower end of the bellows is formed with a collar which is snapped into an opening in the first plate and the upper end of the bellows is forced over the flared end of a connecting member mounted on the second plate.
