Abstract

1,006,042. Feeding sheets. HARRISINTERTYPE CORPORATION. June 22, 1964, No. 25793/64. Heading B6B. A sheet gripping sucker is integrally moulded from rubber or polyurethane and comprises a stem 15 and a frusto-conical suction head 16 which has a suction mouth 18 provided with a circular peripheral sealing edge or rim 20, and a thin flexible skirt 22 defining a second suction mouth 25 and provided with a circular sealing edge or rim 26. A passageway centrally of the stem 15 is fitted with a tube which is connected to a vacuum source. A shoulder 23 extends inwardly between the head 16 and the sealing edge 20 of the suction mouth 18, and a number of circular projections 30 on the head 16 project into the mouth 18 but not beyond the edge 20. In operation, when the sucker is moved down to contact the top sheet of a pile 10, the flexible skirt 22 will first engage the sheet to grip it, and then pull it upwardly against the suction mouth 18 which is of more solid construction. The thin skirt is displaced to lie in the plane of the mouth 18 and loses its grip on the sheet, but the latter is held firmly by the suction mouth 18.
