Abstract

640,017. Typewriters &c. VERNON, J. O., and KIRBY, L. T. June 30, 1947, No. 17191. [Class 100 (iv)] A cap for a typewriter key made from resilient synthetic resin comprises an open based body 7 of substantially cylindrical form adapted detachably to receive the key button 1 and an integrally formed closed top 8 disposed below the rim of the cylindrical portion and at least one inwardly directed flange 9 or 11 being provided on the body portion. The closed top 8 is, as shown, domed to afford inherent resiliency but in a modification the top 8 is made of thin flat material and resilience achieved by an air pocket formed between the undersurface of top 8 and the key button. The upper surface of the top 8 may be moulded, printed, or embossed with the required letter, or a disc 10 made of cellulose acetate or like material bearing a printed or embossed symbol, may be detachably fitted below a flange 9. In further modifications the symbol bearing disc may be made from the same material as the cap, viz. polyvinyl chloride, and the closed top 8 thickened so that the cap can fit on a plain disc on the end of a key lever and the cap itself form the key button.
