[Also in Division F2] The pistons 101 of a radial cylinder fuel injection pump are actuated on the pressure stroke by a rocking cam 111 pivoted on a pin 109 on a drive shaft 35 which has in a radial bore a plunger 108 one end of which engages the cam and the other end a member 59 rotating with the shaft 35 and having a tapered surface 69 and being axially adjustable by means of a member 56 which can be adjusted manually, pedally or automatically by the engine whereby the stroke of the pistons 101 is adjusted. The cam 111 is urged towards its retracted position by centrifugal force. The pistons 101 have conical ends engaging a tapered surface on the cam 111 so that the pistons are rotated; the piston ends may however be rounded. The cam surface 115 may be shaped to alter the timing of injection according to the delivery. Fuel is supplied under pressure to the inlet channel 74 which feeds the cylinders through individual valves which may be cup-wash type valves as shown in Fig. 7 or flexible ring type as shown in Fig. 15. Each pump cylinder is connected directly to an injection valve having a flexible ring valve 138. The pistons 101 are returned to engage a shoulder 118 by the feed pressure but a light return spring may also be provided.
