Abstract
<PICT:0961251/C6-C7/1> A metal object is electroplated, e.g. with Ni or Cr, while removing gas bubbles from between the object and an anode by making the object cathodic, moving the anode relatively to it and passing an electrolyte between the anode and cathode in the same direction as the anode's relative movement, the anode being placed so that the space between it and the cathode widens in the direction of the anode's relative movement. Reference is made to electroplating tubes internally or externally and to electroplating sheets. As shown, a Cr-Ni steel tube 1 is electroplated with Ni by making it cathodic, raising a truncated cone shaped Ni anode 3 through it and pumping an electrolyte containing a Ni salt upwardly between the anode and cathode. The anode is raised by a motor-driven drum 5 and held centrally of the tube by non-conducting projections 17, e.g. of hard rubber. The electrolyte is circulated via conduits 10, 12, 20, and 13 by gas from a jet 19 which carries the electrolyte upwardly to a container 21 from whence it falls through the conduit 13. The electrolyte may be heated or cooled by a heat exchanger 14. Gas bubbles produced during electrolysis can escape from a container 11.
