Abstract

960,817. Mixing conditioned air streams. CARRIER ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Sept. 13, 1960 [Sept. 24, 1959], No. 32572/59. Heading F4V. Apparatus for mixing two conditioned air streams comprises a mixing chamber 1 having an outlet 65 to an enclosure for supplying ventilating air thereto and two ante-chambers 2 and 3, each with an inlet duct 4, 5 for conditioned air. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, ante-chamber 2 is separated from the mixing chamber by a removable prefabricated unit 8 in which is housed a " zig-zag " baffle member having plates 14 each with a rectangular aperture 15. The latter are provided with co-operating dampers 16 laterally movable under the control of rods 18 and 19 which extend through all of the said apertures and are resiliently mounted at each end of the unit 8 by pairs of crossed leaf-springs 23 and 24. The control rods project through the side of the unit and are connected to an activating device, e.g. a Bowden cable for manual control, a thermostatically operated electric motor or a pressure - sensitive device, so that the amount of air flowing to the mixing chamber may be regulated according to charges in the characteristics of the enclosure atmosphere. Air from the ante-chamber 3 is directed into mixing chamber 1 by an apertured damper plate 61 which may be provided with slidable apertured plate valve means. Alternatively, two damper units 8 may be used for automatic control of both air streams.
