Abstract
902,039. Ventilating. CARRIER ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Sept. 7, 1960 [Sept. 9, 1959], No. 30832/59. Class 137. Apparatus for controlling the mixing of two air streams having different characteristics, e.g. fresh air and re-circulated air, comprises a mixing chamber 1 having two inlets 2 and 3 in adjacent walls, one for each of the said air streams, and an outlet 4 for ventilating air. A pivotally mounted obturator is mounted in the chamber and comprises an arcuate damper blade 5 carried by supports 6 at each end thereof, the said supports being attached to struts 8 which extend beyond the pivoting member 12 and have between their free ends a counterweighting link 18. The obturator moves between one limiting position in which one inlet is closed, through intermediate positions in which each inlet is partially closed, and a second limiting position in which the other inlet is closed under the control of actuating means 26 pivotally mounted at 28 and connected to the counterweight link 18 by an adjustable rod 25. The said actuating means, which may comprise a pneumatically operable device or an electric motor, is operated by sensing means responsive to the desired characteristic of the ventilating air and located in the outlet 4. The sensing means may be a thermostat or hygrostat. Inlets 2 and 3 may be provided with perforated plates to provide resistance to air flow as the damper blade is opening the inlet.
