Abstract

692,873. Ventilators. STLTRTEVANT ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and HARGRAVES, W. R. Sept. 20, 1951 [Sept. 20, 1950], No. 23066/50. Class 137 [Also in Group XXIX] A damper, e.g. for controlling air flow in a conduit, comprises strips 1, Fig. 1, on pivots 2 and :strips 1, Fig. 1, turnable on pivots 2 and interconnected by links 4, 5 whereby movement of a rod 3 causes simultaneous turning of the strips. The strips are of streamlined cross-section and alternate strips turn in opposite directions. In another arrangement, pairs of strips 6, Fig. 2, are pivoted on blocks 7 and movable by levers 8 on pivots 9, the levers being connected by arms 16 to a common actuating rod 17. Each lever 8 engages its pair of strips by pin and slot connections, and each strip presents a convex surface to the approaching stream. The rods 3 and 17 may be subjected to automatic control, e.g. by means of a thermostat or a humidistat.
