Abstract

706,388. Ventilation. CRITTALL & CO., Ltd., R., and RHODES, F. March 25, 1953 [Oct. 27, 1952], No. 26899/52. Class 137 A damper for controlling the air flowing from the outlet of a duct in a wall, ceiling &c. or for controlling the flow of' air within a duct, comprises blades 6 which are mounted in a sheet metal frame 1, adjacent blades being rotatable in contrary directions so that in all of their adjusted operative positions, the stream of air passing through the blades is not deflected sideways. The blades 6 at each end of the frame abut against end stops 7 in the fully closed position; all of the blades being mounted on spindles 5 supported at each end in bearings in bars 3, 4 fitted along the top and bottom of the frame. Pins 10 fitted to the upper edges of the blades 6 engage in slots 11 alternately placed along each side of the plate 8 so that reciprocation of the plate in its own plane imparts rotational movement to the blades, adjacent blades being rotated in contrary directions. Means for reciprocating the plate 8 includes a screwed spindle 12 which is supported by a channel member 13 attached to the frame 1 and carries square nut 16 having a pin 17 which engages an inclined slot 18 in the plate 8, adjustment being effected by rotating the spindle 12. In a modification the plate 8 is reciprocated by a spindle which is rotatably supported in an angle bracket fixed to the frame 1, one end of the spindle being provided with a disc having a pin which engages a slot in a bracket secured beneath the plate 8. The end stops 7 in this embodiment are omitted.
