Abstract
960,759. Axial-flow fans. SVENSKA FLAKTFABRIKEN. AB. Dec. 28, 1962 [Dec. 29, 1961], No. 48956/62. Heading F1C. In an axial-flow fan for conveying dust-laden gases, having rotatably adjustable fan blades 4 each provided with a spindle 6 journalled in the fan hub 5 and secured in a blade base plate 7 countersunk in the hub 5, the recesses in the hub for the base plates are formed to provide a circular slot 14 between each base plate and the hub body, and means are provided for supplying the slot 14 if desired with scavenging air which may be preheated. The scavenging air prevents the dust carried by the main flow from settling on the hub periphery and, if preheated, also prevents moisture in the main stream from condensing on the hub 5. The scavenging air, corresponding for example, to 1-2% of the main flow carried by the fan 1, may be supplied by an auxiliary fan 19 which discharges into a conduit 18 containing a heater 20, a filter or other air cleaner 21 and a throttle 22. Alternatively, the fan 19 may be omitted and the suction of the fan 1 utilized. The conduit 18 supplies the scavenging air to a pressure chamber 16 formed, at the admission side of the fan 1, between the hub 5 and a cap 7. The pressure chamber 16 directs the scavenging air through bores 15 to the slots 14. In an alternative embodiment (not shown) the fan hub has an enclosed pressure chamber which supplies the scavenging air to the slots 14 through hollow blade spindles. Thus, if cold scavenging air is used, it will cool the blade spindles and bushings.
