Abstract

772,888. Centrifugal fans. CHRISTENSEN, P. R., and LOKDAM, A. June 24, 1955 [Dec. 21, 1954], No. 18296/55. Class 110 (1). In a fan housing with a number of discharge openings or pipes arranged along a portion of the periphery to discharge air in a tangential direction, the scroll along that part of the periphery where there are no discharge openings is shaped so that firstly its distance from the fan axis gradually increases, and secondly its axial width gradually increases to one or both sides of the fan, the remainder of the scroll being concentric with the axis while its width decreases after each discharge opening. The scroll 3 is of increasing distance from the fan axis up to a point 6 and is of increasing width from point 6 to a point 7. Housing side plate 2 has a frustoconical part 8 extending from a point 11 to a point 12. The scroll 3 and side plate 2 are stepped as shown to form axially staggered discharge openings 10, 15, 16, 18 which may be of increasing area from 10 to 18. One or more guide vanes may be provided in one or more of the discharge openings to give the air a bias in the axial direction. The fan may be used for ventilation, with separate ducts leading to different rooms, or for spraying fruit trees.
