Abstract

960,444. Rack-mounted electrical equipment. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Feb. 16, 1961, No. 5776/61. Heading H1R. Apparatus for mounting electrical equipment comprises a framework into which drawer-shaped main chassis may be inserted, each main chassis including a number of drawershaped sub-chassis, and self-engaging electrical connecting means being provided between the sub-chassis and main chassis and between a subchassis and the standard framework. A main chassis comprises a front panel 1, two sid e frames 2 and a number of cross-members 3, and, as shown in Fig. 2, may also include a base plate 6, provided with holes 6b for ventilation, and guide members 7, 7a having a length according to the length of a subchassis to be fitted and spacing depending on the width of the subchassis. The subchassis 10a, 10b, 10c, 10d are assembled in the same manner as a main chassis and comprise an appropriate front panel, side frames 11 or 11a and where necessary cross members 12; subchassis 10a carrying relays, chassis 10d carrying valves and subchassis 10b and 10c carrying printed circuit boards. The subchassis carry electrical connectors 13 on cross members 12 or on the side frames 11 which plug into mating contacts on the rear faces of guide members 7, 7a of the main chassis. The main chassis and the framework are equipped with similar electrical connectors and in order to facilitate this connection the standard framework is provided with a separate connector panel attached to a U- shaped member of sheet metal into which the main chassis is inserted and guided by the rounded protruding ends of cross-member 3a, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown).
