Abstract
960,094. Encapsulating electrical components. DUBILIER CONDENSER CO. (1925) Ltd. June 2, 1960 [July 3, 1959], No. 22934/59. Heading B5A. [Also in Division H1] An electrical component such as a capacitor or a resistor is encapsulated by locating it in a mould with insulating lateral spacing means between the component and the side walls of the mould and an end stop between the component and at least one end wall of the mould, and injecting insulating material into the mould to bond or merge with the locating means to form an encapsulation through which the component terminals project; the space which the material enters being adequate to permit flow of material and release of air. A capacitor A is placed on a nylon support B of semicircular cross-section and having end walls B 1 which is located in the bottom half of mould C. The top half of the mould is then fitted so that terminals A 1 project through holes in the mould walls and nylon is injected through C 2 Into space C 1 . In the embodiment of Fig. 8 the end wall B 1 has a groove aligned with the hole in the mould wall so that terminal A 1 may be bent to project coaxially from the insulation. The embodiments of Figs. 9-14 (not shown) depict alternative supports and in Figs. 15-18 (not shown) the supports are designed so that the terminals project from the same end of the insulation. The support and injection material may alternatively be of polythene or polypropylene.
