Abstract
960,098. Encapsulating electrical components. DUBILIER CONDENSER CO. (1925) Ltd. June 10, 1960, No. 20486/60. Heading B5A. [Also in Division H1] An electrical component such as a capacitor or a resistor is encapsulated by spacing the component from the mould walls by an insulating supporting member which is distorted to almost surround the component and grip it to prevent its longitudinal movement during moulding, and injecting insulating material into the mould to bond or merge with the said member to form encapsulation through which the component terminals project; the space which the material enters being adequate to permit flow of material and release of air. A nylon sleeve B provided with a longitudinal slot B 1 is deformed to partly surround a capacitor A having terminals A 1 and is placed in the bottom half of mould C. The upper mould half is then fitted so that the terminals A 1 project from mould walls and nylon is injected through channel C 1 . In the embodiment of Fig. 8 (not shown) a single supporting member is used in the encapsulation of several capacitors and in Fig. 9 (not shown) the supporting member is provided with a longitudinal groove so that both terminals may project from the same end of the insulation. The support and injection material may alternatively be of polythene or polypropylene. Specification 960,094 is referred to.
