959,983. Strengthening edges. H. ENDER. March 22, 1961 [March 22, 1960], No. 10537/61. Heading B5K. A facing strip for application to an edge face of a board-like element 1 includes at least one anchor member 3 adapted to be embedded in a recess 4 leading out of another recess formed in said face of the element 1, the strip having its maximum thickness in the region of the anchor member and its minimum thickness at its edges. To fit the strip, the edge of the board 1, which is preferably made of wood chips and synthetic resin, is grooved to correspond with the crosssection of the strip and the recess 4 is filled with adhesive which may be " loaded " with particles, such as inert earth or mineral particles, to give it added strength upon solidification. The strip is pressed into position so that the adhesive is forced into the pores of the board and fills the spaces between the serrations of the member 3 and any excess adhesive passes into the gap between the strip and the board edge. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the strip has a cross-section in the form of a trapezium with two anchor members depending from the shorter parallel side thereof. In a further modification, Fig. 3, the strip 9 is shown applied to a rebated edge of a board 10.
