Abstract
959,109. Pipe brackets, SANKEY-SHELDON Ltd. April 30, 1962 [June 19, 1961], No. 21989/61. Heading A4B. [Also in Divisions E2, F2 and H2] A cleat or clamp for cables, pipes or the like comprises two opposed jaw members 4, 5 with recessed opposed faces and having holes 13, 20 to receive a clamping bolt 14 adapted to attach the cleat or clamp to a slotted or channel-section carrier member 1; one of the jaw members having on a rear vertical face a vertically-extending key or tenon 6 adapted to engage with the slot or channel of a vertical carrier member 1, whilst one or each of the jaw members has a horizontally-extending upwardly projecting key or tenon 11 or 23 on its top face, being located intermediate the side edges of the latter for engagement with a slot or channel of an overhead horizontal carrier member, the key or tenon 11 or 23 having a maximum overall width less than that of the top face and such that it can be engaged with the slot or channel of the carrier member by a direct upward movement. As shown in Figs. 2, 4 and 5 the jaw members are formed with co-operating recesses 12 and shanks 22, and the tenons 11 and 23 are continuations of the tenon 6. The tenon 6 is engaged between inturned flanges 2 of the carrier member 1 and the bolt 14 engaged with a spring-loaded nut 3 within the carrier member. The clamping surface 18 of the clamp member 5 is formed with recesses the ridges so formed being knurled or otherwise roughened to improve the grip. A recess 24 on the outer face of the clamp member 5 is adapted to receive a rib or tenon on the back of a second cleat in the case of the arrangement shown in Fig. 9. In another arrangement in which the cleat is attached to a horizontal carrier member with the tenons 11, 23 engaging the channel thereof, Figs. 10-13 (not shown), a plate or bracket is carried at one or both ends of the bolt 14, an additional bolt being engaged through the plate or bracket with the spring loaded nut 3.
