[Also in Divisions E2, F2 and H2] A hanger 11 for use with a C-shaped channel 26 has a head 17 and also has formed on one side thereof a hook 18 and on the other side thereof a pair of abutment parts 42 for bearing against the abutment surfaces 20 of the C- shaped channel and projecting means 32 between the abutment parts, the width of the projecting means being slightly narrower than the width of the elongated gap in the C-shaped channel and the maximum dimension of the projecting means being greater than the width of the elongated gap, so that when the abutment parts bear against the abutment surfaces the projecting means enters the elongated gap to prevent the hanger rotating relative to the channel, the hook of the cable hanger being so located that when the abutment parts bear against the abutment surfaces of the C-shaped channel when vertical, the hook will retain an elongated member such as a cable or pipe placed in it. A closure element 12 for closing the mouth of the hook can also be provided. The hanger is provided with two rectangular sockets 23 which receive two dowels 24 on the closure element 12 to prevent relative rotation. The hanger is attached to the channel by means of a nut unit 34 and a threaded rod 33. The nut unit is positioned in the channel and the rod 33 is threaded into the nut until its tip engages the base of the channel when continued rotation forces the nut against the underside of the flanges 29 of the channel. The hanger and closure element are then positioned on the rod and a nut 30 clamps them together. A plurality of hangers and closure elements can be supported from a single rod and to secure the projecting means of an adjacent hanger the closure element has a groove 35. A spacing washer can be positioned between the hanger and the closure element when it is not desired that the closure element and hanger should clamp the elongated member between them but only loosely support it. Both the hanger and the closure element are formed with edge grooves 31 which can engage the channel when it is horizontal as described in Specification 952,164.
