Abstract

[Also in Division A4] A fastener for an elongated article such as a wire, electric conductor, cable or pipe, or a plurality of such elongated articles, comprises a flanged support bar 1 adapted to be fastened to a base such as a wall, the support bar including a surface for engaging the base and projecting edge portions spaced from the base engaging surface, a pliant strip 3 which is adapted to be bent so as to at least partially surround and to hold in position on the support bar the elongated article or articles, and at least one malleable clip 5, the or each of which is adapted to be bent over the projecting edge portions of the support bar to fasten one or more portions of the strip to the support bar. As shown in Fig. 6 a plurality of the articles are attached to the support bar by the clips and the portion of the strip engaging each article is held in position by two clips; to prevent leaving a space between the articles the intermediate clips engage a doubled back portion of the strip. Where saving space is not important however the strip is not doubled back and each intermediate clip engages a portion of the strip which is bent to U shape between the articles. In a further use several articles can be engaged side by side by a portion of the strip between two clips. When a single article is to be held to the bar 1 two clips can be used one on each side of the article; alternatively the strip can be passed round the article and its end portions held to the bar by a single clip. A single clip can also be used to hold two members to the support bar the clip being positioned between them and the strip encircling each article individually so that the clip engages the two end portions of the strip and an intenmediate portion. Three different shapes of support bar are described; in one form the bar centre portion with out-turned flanges and in is T-shaped, in another it has a U-shaped the third it has a U-shaped portion with inturned flanges the arms of the U-shaped portion being inclined to the base so that in outline the cross section is of trapezoidal shape, The support bar can be grooved so that portions can be removed easily.
