Abstract
1,022,614. Band clamps. W. HENNING. Oct. 11, 1962 [Oct. 11, 1961; Aug. 30, 1962], No. 38513/62. Heading E2B. A band clamp comprises a worm adapted to engage corresponding part threads in a free end portion of a strap, the worm being mounted on a support member having elongated projections at the sides arranged obliquely and adapted to engage guiding surfaces of lateral walls of a bracket adapted to receive the other end portion of the strap. With this construction when the worm is rotated to tighten the strap around an article the worm is pressed into the part threads of the strap. In the construction shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the guiding surfaces are the upper edges. of inclined slots 52 in the side walls 53 of the bracket 54. The worm support member is a cap 45 having two of the projections 49, 50 on each side which engage the slots the worm 40 being rotatably mounted in end walls of the cap. The strap is attached to the bracket by having one end portion bent round a part of the bracket base. In a modification the projections engage underneath inclined flanges projecting inwardly from the walls of the bracket. In a further construction the cap is provided with an inclined hook shaped projection on each side and these projections engage out turned flanges on the bracket walls. In another construction, Fig. 8 the support member 101 extends over the worm 98 which is attached to its front plate 95 by a rivet 99. The plate 95 carries a pin 93 which engages slots 92 in the walls of the bracket 84. The other end of the support member is provided with inclined flanges 102 which engage open ended slots 103 in the bracket walls. This construction enables the worm to be pivoted away from the strap for ease of engagement of the strap ends. In a modification of this construction the support member is the front plate only; the flanges are ommitted and instead a wire clip is engaged with the pin 93 and hooks over the top of the worm, the spring, near its base, engaging the slots 103.
