Abstract

958,293. Sewing machines. W. ULLRICH. Dec. 4, 1961 [Dec. 21, 1960], No.43381/61. Heading D1G. In a chainstitch sewing machine adapted to implant filaments of hair in a doll's head and comprising a draw-off means movable across the path of the needle to carry a loop of filament into contact with a knife for severing the filament, the draw-off means is provided with draw-off members corresponding to the shortest length of hair, which members can be put into and out of operation as desired. In Fig. 1 an upper disc 1 is formed with eight annular slots 3 separated by radial webs 8. The inner edge of each slot 3 is formed with a notch 4 adjacent the trailing web 8 and an intermediate notch 4<SP>1</SP>, the portion of slot 3 between the leading web 8 and notch 4<SP>1</SP> being slightly wider than the position between the notches 4 and 4<SP>1</SP>. A lower disc 2 also has eight annular slots 3 separated by webs 6 having upstanding flanges 7 which project into the slots 3 of the upper disc 1. Disc 2 is also formed with end notches 5 and intermediate notches 5<SP>1</SP>. Disc 2 can be moved from one end position in which the flanges 7 abut the webs 8, the notches 5 underlie the notches 4 and the respective slots 3 coincide, to a second end position in which the flanges 7 abut the trailing ends of the notches 4<SP>1</SP>, and the notches 5 and 5<SP>1</SP> underlie the notches 4 and 4<SP>1</SP>. In the latter position the webs 6 and 8 define sixteen annular slots to halve the length of loop drawn off. In Fig. 3 an upper disc 20 is formed with eight annular slots 22, the inner edges of which are formed with trailing end notches 24 and intermediate notches 24<SP>1</SP>. A lower disc 27, movable concentrically with respect to disc 22, carries radial spokes 21 which can be moved from one end position underlying the webs separating the slots 22, to another end position underlying the trailing ends of the notches 24<SP>1</SP> in order to provide sixteen annular slots. In Fig. 4 an endless band 41 is provided with draw-off members 42 which are adapted to draw threads 44 from needles 43 to a severing knife 45. The members 42 are arranged to fold down to an inoperative position. German Specification 1, 077, 511 is referred to.
