Abstract
949,888. Knitting machines. SINGER - FIDELITY Inc. Jan. 29,1962 [Jan. 30, 1961], No.3222/62. Heading D1C. A rotary cylinder knitting machine comprises a relatively fixed cutter blade 31 spaced from the feed station in the direction of rotation of the needle cylinder and co-operating with the sinkers 16 to sever splicing ends as they are inserted into and withdrawn from action. As shown, the sinker ring 15 rotates with the needle cylinder 10 and the sinkers 16 are operated by a stationary sinker cap 17 which engages their butts 18. Overlying the Sinker cap 17 is a yarn guide ring 19 with a feed station 22 having seven yarn feed fingers 23. Yarn fingers 23-1 and 23-7 respectively feed the leg yarn Y and the splicing yarn S. When yarn S is withdrawn, it is severed by the blade 31 which is pivoted on cap 17 and is biased by spring 43 into engagement with projections 32 on sinkers 16. A suction tube 36 between feed station 22 and cutter 31 draws in the severed end. When finger 23-7 reinserts yarn S, the yarn is displaced downwardly to engage in the needles 11, the end of the yarn leading to tube 36 is severed close to the fabric and removed by suction.
