A method of constructing a concrete flooring with an underlying ceiling spaced therefrom comprises erecting shuttering 1, laying out a ceiling 2 upon the shuttering and casting concrete flooring 8 upon the ceiling, preferably with a separating layer of cardboard &c. therebetween, the ceiling 2 being provided with vertical supporting rods 6 projecting above its upper surface to key with the concrete flooring 8, each rod having a shoulder formed thereon and being upwardly displaceable relatively to the ceiling from a first position which it occupies during the casting operation to a position in which the shoulder co-operates with a stop surface formed in the ceiling, whereby after removal of the shuttering 1, the ceiling will sink down against the shoulders on the supporting rods so that it becomes spaced from the flooring as in Fig. 3. Resilient material 5 may be provided between the shoulders and stop surfaces. The stop surfaces are formed by the bottoms of recesses 4 in the ceiling. The ceiling comprises a plurality of plaster-faced wood wool plates having grooves 9, Fig. 4, in their upper edges so that adjacent pairs of grooves on adjacent plates form recesses into which concrete, preferably with reinforcement 10, can be introduced to bond the plates together. Spacers of elastic and sound insulating material may be provided between the walls of the room and the adjacent plates.
