Abstract

957,530. Air conditioning. CARRIER ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. April 27, 1962 [June 15, 1961], No. 21695/61. Heading F4V. A ventilating system for the outer rooms of a multi-floor building comprises a unit 8 supplying filtered humidified air to vertical conduits 5 and filtered humidified air conditioned by a unit 9 to vertical conduits 3, ventilation units 7 in the rooms being connectable either to a conduit 5 or a conduit 3 to give conditioned rooms AC or ventilated rooms V. The ventilating units 7 of the air conditioned rooms contain two water coils 10 and 11 in parallel and a non- return valve 17 in series with the coil 11, and the ventilated room units contain a single coil 10 and valve 17 in series, the coils 10 and 11 being connected between vertical water supply pipes 12 and 13 joined at their upper ends by a line 16. In summer, chilled water is supplied to the building via a line 14 and the pipes 12, and leaves via the pipes 13 and a line 15, the arrangement of the valves 17 being such that the cold water passes through both coils 10 and 11 in the conditioned rooms AC but cannot pass through the coils 10 in the ventilated rooms V (see Fig. 3). In winter, Fig. 2 (not shown), heated water is supplied via the line 15 and pipes 13 and leaves via pipes 12 and line 14 in which case the valves 17 allow flow through the single coils in the ventilated rooms V but only through the coils 10 of the air conditioned rooms AC. In modifications (not shown), individual supply units 8 may be used for each set of air supply conduits, and the water circulation system may be omitted.
