Abstract

957,376. Rolling tubes. CALUMET & HECLA Inc. Oct. 4, 1962 [Dec. 11, 1961], No. 37659/62. Heading B3M. A floating mandrel for use in rolling helically finned tubing comprises cylindrical forward pilot sections 39 and 40, and rearward forming and pilot sections 32 and 35, all the section being coaxially and freely mounted on a rod 12 between pairs of nuts 15, 16 and 21, 22. Sections 32, 35, 39 and 40 are of tungsten carbide, while washers 37, 41, and 42 are of bronze. A felt oiler ring 20 helps to lubricate the inside of the tube. Finned rolls 24 and 25 form fins on a tube 13, as shown, and feed the tube to the right, thus urging the mandrel to the right. Specifications 673,818 and 796,837 are referred to.
