Abstract

1380166 Rolling tubes MANNESMANN AG 28 Jan 1972 [2 Feb 1971] 4227/72 Heading B3M A mandrel for a pilgrim tube rolling mill includes a tang 4 for reception in a mandrel holder 5 which is provided with an abutment ring 7, and one or more thickened portions 3 for preventing turning of the workpiece 1 positioned between a cylindrical working portion 2 and the tang end 4 in front of and nearer to the abutment ring 7 than the free end of the mandrel. In one embodiment the thickened portion 3 is formed by a frusto-conical portion which may be provided with longitudinal notches (Fig. 2, not shown). In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), the thickened portion is formed by radially expanding segments (9, 10). The mandrel may be internally cooled.
