Abstract
1,136,195. Rolling tubes. ELEKTROSTALSKY ORDENA LENINA ZAVOD TYAZHELOGO MASHINOSTROENIA. 17 April, 1967, No. 17486/67. Heading B3M. Apparatus for holding and rotating a billet which is being rolled in a cold tube mill, comprises a hollow spindle within which the billet is gripped by cams 3, the spindle including an axially fixed part 1, and an axially movable part 2 having slots to accommodate the cams. The spindle is mounted in bearings 16-18 for rotation within a housing 10 by means of gearing 19-21. To retract the cams so that a billet can be passed through the apparatus, the spindle part 2 is moved to the left by an hydraulically operated spring biased piston 8, which acts on the lower end of a lever 12 pivoted at 13, thus causing the cams to move along corresponding surfaces of a spring loaded bushing 5 and be retracted. During rolling, the billet is automatically released from the grip of the cams 3 when pulled in direction B sufficiently to move the piston against the bias of spring 9. Fluid can be introduced through a bore F to increase the resistance of the piston to movement to the left.
