957,123. Expendable conveying strips; packaging. BURNDY CORPORATION. Jan. 23, 1962 [Jan. 23, 1961], No. 2594/62. Headings B8A and B8C. A tape assembly is used for storing articles and for transporting the articles through a machine for processing. The articles are protected when the tape is wound into reels. As shown, connectors are conveyed through a crimping machine by means of a tape 10. Pin contacts 24 and a socket contact 36 which are to have wires 64 crimped into them are located in pockets 12 heat-formed in the tape 10. A cellulose acetate butyrate material may be used for the tape and a strip 20 for holding the contacts is fused at points 22 to the tape. The tape is fed by a sprocketwheel (not shown) which engages cut-outs 16 in the tape, cut-outs 18 also being made to clear crimping dies 56, 58. During crimping, shears 66, 68 which are attached to the dies, sever the holding strip 20, and the crimped-together contact and wire 64 may be ejected from the tape.
