Abstract

927,345. Jointing by stamping. BURNDY CORPORATION. March 19, 1962 [March 20, 1961], No. 10411/62. Class 83 (4). A crimping tool for indenting a workpiece, particularly for securing an electrical contact 91 to a wire 110 comprises a set of radiallyacting dies 80 spaced from each other by less than 180 degrees, and means for transporting the workpiece to the centre of the dies along a path lying in the plane of the dies. The latter are actuated through spring-biased rockers arms 26, Fig. 4, by cam rollers 24 mounted for universal alignment between upper and lower rotatably mounted cam plates 18, 22. The latter are oscillated by a crank-arm 86 pivoted at 90 and having gear teeth 88, Fig. 3 (not shown), engaging a gear sector on the camplate 18. The contacts 91 are supplied in a belt 92 which is moved stepwise through the tool by a reciprocating finger 104, Fig. 13 (not shown), actuated from the cam-plate 18 through a rocker-arm 124, Fig. 8 (not shown). After crimping the contact to the wire they are released from the belt by severing the tie strip 100 which holds the contact in the belt. This is effected by radially acting tools 232, 234, Fig. 7 (not shown), actuated from the camplate. The empty belt may be wound on a reel or chopped into pieces by a blade 114.
