Abstract

956,775. Thermal switches. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc. May 18, 1960, No. 17610/60. Heading H2B. In a manually reset thermal cut-out comprising a snap-acting bi-metallic plate 23 clamped to a vertically adjustable terminal support 13 the plate 23 has a semi-circular slot 33. Two ears 25, 27 extend from the plate, 25 carrying a contact 29 which cooperates with a fixed contact 11, and 27 having an aperture 31 co-operating with a screw 55 carried by a push-pull resetting button 45. At a predetermined temperature the plate snaps to the dotted line position (Fig. 2), whereupon an indicating band 51 on button 45 is exposed. The characteristics of plate 23 are so chosen that it can be reset only when it has cooled to a predetermined temperature. When the button 45 is depressed the plate is deformed in a generally anticlockwise sense and the ear 25 of the plate bears against an adjustable stop 41 so causing the plate to be stressed and snap into engagement with fixed contact 11. The cut-out can be opened manually by pulling the button 45.
