Abstract
1321758 Thermal switches; retractive switches COMEL INTERNATIONAL CORP 22 Nov 1971 54041/71 Heading H1N A thermal switch comprises a bimetal 21 movable to the dotted line position shown to open main contacts 16, 24 by an overload heater 20 on bimetal 21, heater 20 being connected in series with main contacts 16, 24 and auxiliary contacts 32, 25b. Contact 32 is formed by the free end of resilient blade 31, which free end is insulated from the fixed end of blade 31, blade 31 being depressible by reset button 26 to open auxiliary contacts 32, 25b and also snap bimetal 21 back to its original position. The electrical circuit is from terminal 17 to main contacts 16, 24, member 23, wire 20a, heater 20, wire 20b, auxiliary contacts 32, 25b, member 25 and terminal 25a. On overload, the circuit is broken by main contacts 16, 24, which remain open until button 26 is depressed when the circuit is further opened by auxiliary contacts 32, 25b, then main contacts 16, 24 close on an open circuit, the circuit firstly being closed by auxiliary contacts 32, 25b when button 26 is released. Bimetal 19 is for ambient temperature compensation.
