Abstract

954,766. Electric cables. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. March 15, 1963, No. 10365/63. Heading H1A. An electric cable consists of one or more insulated conductors surrounded by a metal tube which has a coating consisting of an insulating oil and a synthetic hydrocarbon wax between its outer surface and an extruded thermoplastic sheath. As shown in Fig. 1, paper insulated conductors 1 are enclosed by longitudinally folding either a plane or corrugated metal strip 2 which has a polythene coating on its inner surface around the core in such a way that the polythene coatings on the marginal edges 3 and 4 can then be bonded together. A layer of compound consisting of insulating oil mixed with between 15% and 60% by weight of synthetic hydrocarbon wax and rosin is applied to the outer surface 5 of the metal tube before polythene sheathing 6 is extruded around the compound coated metal strip.
