954,740. Semi-conductor devices. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 30, 1962 [Dec. 4, 1961], No. 45390/62. Heading H1K. A connection between a rod and a semi-conductor body is made by means of a stack of washer shaped springs which are clamped at their inner edge to the rod and at their outer edge to a cup-shaped conductor which is fixed to the body. As shown, a rectifier body 1 is soldered between two gold-plated molybdenum plates 2, 3. A cup-shaped conductor 5 is soldered to plate 2 and a base 4 is soldered to plate 3. Rod 9 is connected to conductor 5 by springs 7 which are held in place by crimping the end of rod 9 and edge 6 of conductor 5 over pressure rings 10, 8. Envelope 15, which has a glass plug 14 with a tube 13 sealed into it, is secured to the base 4 by rim 16 and rod 9 is soldered at 12 to the end of tube 13. Duct 17 in rod 9 enables a suitable environment to be supplied. after the envelope is sealed, the duct being subsequently closed by soldering. Springs 7 may be corrugated and may be made of copper.
