954,738. Luffing arm apparatus on vehicles. P. F. MOSKOPF. Sept. 27, 1962, No. 36670/62. Headings B8E and B8H. The telescopic jib of a loadhandling vehicle 1 comprises an arm 9 slidable under the action of hydraulic rams within an arm 4, both arms having a substantially rectangular cross-section. The arm 9 is provided with rollers 14 running on ledges 13 mounted within the arm 4. Hydraulic ram cylinders 16, 17 are supported by a carriage 15 provided at one end with rollers 18 running on the ledges 13 and at its other end with rollers 19 running on the reinforced base 20 of the arm 9. The piston-rods of the cylinders 16, 17 are secured to a bracket 23 at the inner end of the jib and to a wall 24 in the arm 9, respectively. The arm 4 has an open or slotted underside to allow the passage of a carrier member 10 mounted at the outer end of the arm 9 and supporting a gripper device 11. At 4a, 4b guide members on the arm 9 engage the inside of the arm 4. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the ledges 13 overlie the arm 9 which is supported by depending members provided with rollers running on the ledges and which is guided inside the arm 4 by direct sliding contact with the walls of the arm 4.
