Abstract

954,216. Door closers and checks. R. HEIL. Aug. 29, 1960 [Aug. 31, 1959], No. 29679/60. Heading E2M. An hydraulically checked door closer has a single-acting plunger 10 subjected to the action of a closing spring 14, the spill valve 23 being formed to provide a restricted passage for the checking liquid during the checking stroke. The valve comprises a ball 25 which permits free flow of liquid from the chamber 20 to the chamber 19 through a radial port 22 and bore 21 in the plunger rod 9 and is held away from its seating during the checking stroke by an adjustable push rod 29 which has screw-threaded engagement 28 with the plunger rod and can be turned by a knob 30. The embodiment described appears to be of the type which operates only during the final stage of the closing movement of the door, and comprises a U-shaped supporting frame 1 adapted to be embedded in the door and secured to a box 4 within which the cylinder 12 is pivoted at 13. The end of the plunger rod 9 is screwed to a link 8 pivoted to a cranked lever 6 carrying a roller 7.
