953,784. Printing-machines. A. W. RANGER. Feb. 19, 1963 [Feb. 28, 1962], No. 7721/62. Heading B6C. A cylinder printing machine comprises a main frame 10, an impression roller 13, and a flat bed 25 mounted on the frame and supporting the forms, said bed being of thin plate metal and adapted to reciprocate with its plane underface on a flat surface 11 of the frame which surface is interrupted by a low-friction support for the bed extending parallel to and vertically below the roller. The said support is formed by a plurality of rollers 20 which are freely rotatably mounted on a shaft 19 and which project slightly above the level of a number of spaced blades 18. The upper surfaces of the blades are coplanar with the surface 11, which may be grooved in a diamond pattern to reduce friction, and the thickness of each blade is approximately equal to the thickness of the bed 25. The rollers may be driven, Fig. 10 (not shown), by a pinion engaging teeth on the rack 30 used to reciprocate the bed 25 and partially rotate the roller 13. In the embodiment of Fig. 8, the bed 25 is supported by a member 40 which is supported by a member 40 which is supported at the line of printing by rollers 42 freely rotatable on stubshafts 43. Members 44 additionally help to locate the bridge member 40. The rollers 20 may be replaced by a single roller, Fig. 11 (not shown), the surface 11 being provided with portions which overhang part of the upper surface of the roller.
