Abstract
819,238. Printing surfaces. HAVERCROFT & SON (PRINTERS' ENGINEERS) Ltd., H. H. Sept. 5, 1957, No. 28064/57. Class 100(2) Apparatus for treating type-face to permit of decorative printing therewith, includes a type-carrier constructed to receive the type to be treated, an idle-running roller, on the outer curved surface of which one or more protrusion(s) is or are formed and means for moving the type-carrier in relation to the roller such that the roller is caused to rotate by friction between the curved surface and the type-face, whereby one or more indentation(s) is or are formed on the type face. The type to be treated is placed in a tray 1 of a carriage slidable in a main casting 3. The carriage includes a rider 5 which co-operates with a driven spindle 4 for moving the carriage to and fro. The spindle is driven by a belt and pulley 7, 6 and limit switches 8 actuated by the rider 5 are provided to prevent over-running, The roller 10 is mounted between upstanding brackets 9 bolted to the top of the casting 3 and rotates on the central section 11a of a spindle 11. The spindle has outer sections 11b, 11c journalled in the brackets 9 and concentric with each other but eccentric with respect to the section 11a so that the height of the roller and thus the depth of the indentation marks of the protrusions on the roller on the type may be varied. A knob 12 is provided for adjusting the spindle 11 and it is held in adjusted position by a screw 14 which co-operates with a groove 13 formed in the spindle section 11c.
