Abstract

953,677. Railway vehicle bogies. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG A.G. April 5, 1962 [April 19, 1961], No. 13209/62. Heading B7L. A method of and apparatus for accurately mounting wheel pairs in the frame of a railway vehicle bogie with helical springs 20, Fig. 2, mounted directly between the axle bearing casings 21 and the bogie frame, and with spring blade links 22, 23 extending in longitudinal directions opposite to one another also between the axle bearing casings and the bogie frame, is characterized in that before the helical springs 20, Fig. 3, are inserted, locating devices 39, Fig. 6, are inserted between guiding sleeves 31a mounted accurately on the bogie frame in an upper spring plate 31 and a locating stud 35 on each axle casing 21, so that the spring blade links 22, 23 may be fitted without horizontal stress between the axle casings and the bogie frame, the springs 20 then being compressed and inserted in the sleeves 32 in place of the locating devices. For mounting the wheel pairs before the links 22, 23 are mounted, the bogie frame 1, Fig. 6, is jacked up and the wheel pairs placed beneath it. The locating devices 39 are placed on the centring studs 35 on one side of the bogie and the tubular part 31a of the upper spring- plae 31 is fixed without radial clearance over each locating device as shown. The bottom end of the part 31a rests on a flange 39c having a height which corresponds to one half of the permissible vertical spring movement shown in Fig. 3. On the other side of the bogie a somewhat similar but shorter locating device is placed over each stud 35, Fig. 7 (not shown), but such devices provide radial clearance with the studs, have no base-plates 39a, but still space the ends of the tubes 31a from the casings 21 a distance equal to one half of the vertical spring movement. The bogie frame is thus rigidly supported on the wheel pairs at a height which will permit the links 22, 23 to be mounted in an unstressed condition. The links at the ends which are attached to the bogie are adjustably clamped, Fig. 4 (not shown), and at their other ends are fixed to the casings 21, Fig. 5 (not shown), by eccentric bolts passing through sleeves. The springs 20 are then initially stressed by means of the upper and lower spring plates and inserted into the frame sleeves 32 as a complete unit. The other side of the bogie is then similarly fitted as described above. In operation the springs 20, Fig. 3, bear against plates 31, 33, and the lower plate 33 with its sleeve 33a is fastened by a screw 34 to the axle casing 21. Movements of the springs 20 are limited by abutment of the nut 36 with the plate 31 and by abutment of the lower end of the sleeve 31a with the plate 33. In Fig. 1 a crosshead 5 which is attached to the pivot of the vehicle body is connected to the bogie by rigid links 6, 7 and transverse longitudinally resilient links 8, 9. Plates 10, 11 secured to upper spring troughs 12, 13 are guided in the bogie by means of slide plates 14, 15.
