Abstract
953,528. Hydromechanical variable-speed gear. INPOWER WORKS (PROPRIETARY) Ltd. Feb. 14, 1963 [Feb. 22, 1962], No. 6090/63. Heading F2D. A hydromechanical variablespeed epicyclic gear comprises at least one planet gear 20, rotatable on a planet carrier 22 connected to the input shaft 12, the planet gear being connected to a sun gear 24 on the output shaft 28 such that their relative rotations are in the same direction and carrying oppositely directed sets of liquid-receiving means 34, 34a which dip into a ring of liquid 58 formed on rotation of a drum 14 surrounding the gear. The connection between the sun gear 24 and planet gears 20 may be by idler gears 18 or by chain and sprocket and the drum 14 may form the planet spindle carrier or be separate therefrom. The ratio of the planet and sun gear pitch diameter lies between ¢ and 1 and the liquid-receiving buckets 34, 34a may be perforated to permit leakage to provide slip near full load speed.
